On my desk in my Studio I have a coaster with an image from Banksy on it. I love this coaster and the image it represents and when I saw this month's DT stamp set - Butterfly Girl - I knew that I wanted to use this stamp. I also had a hankering to do something quite 'beachy' and driftwood like and so I combined the two and made my own coaster in homage to Banksy.
I took four scrap pieces of greyboard and glued them to a piece of card just smaller than the pieces. I then, with my finger, painted the boards with a blue paint, sanded the project, 'painted' it with a white paint and sanded again. To make sure that the edges of each piece were sanded I did bend them back at each section - this ensures that you get an even paint finish and can give the pieces a more authentic finish. I then edged all pieces with Vintage Photo Distress Ink (of course!).
The hearts were stamped with Jet Black Archival Ink and then painted (with a brush!) with a little red paint and Distress Stains until I go the right depth of colour. The sentiment is from the increasingly popular and incredibly useful Art Sayings. I stamped it with Jet Black Archival Ink, cut out each word and edged them with Distress Ink.
All I need to do now is cover the whole project in a waterproof medium and I will have my own useable coaster. I have realised I am currently on a bit of an art kick using popular artists as my muse (This was my nod to Warhol - Wendy Style!) so who or what are you using as your muse at the moment? I'd love to know!
