Life in miniature

PaperArtsy have a new challenge theme of Miniature Art. I love making people from different images and Lynne Perella makes it easy with her fabulous stamps! I really had to squeeze a few minutes in the Studio to be able join in this fortnight - and my little domino hanging was the result!

I stamped out the two images onto tissues paper and painted the reverse. I took two (bamboo?) dominoes that I've had for a-g-e-s and then glued the images to each domino. I lightly sanded the edges of each domino so the image fitted. I then joined them together by feeding wire through the holes in the dominoes and adding a little hoop at the top for hanging, two twisted 'arms'  and two teeny bobbins as feet. Facts of Life

Deborah Wainwright's new Zodiac challenge is Pisces and I made this tag. I loved the quotation so much that I knew I needed to use it somehow! I really don't have much that's fish based as I really can't stand the little creatures in real life or on my plate!

I haven't used these Dylusions stamps in ages so it was great to get them out - if they are incredibly fiddly to cut out!

I just wanted to say...

For my second project for the Country View Crafts Challenges this month I wanted to use my Drips and Drops in a slightly different way. Last time my drip was a flower stalk, this time it’s something for my chap to stand on! 

The background is a rectangular Art Part that I added a torn piece of Tissue Wrap to. I used white, blue and green paint in the background and then used some of the blue paint (watered down to a sort of single cream consistency) and ran a drip down the side. 

When it was dry I added some drips of Dylusions Ink and some blue circles of Distress Ink through a mask. I used orange for a third colour (white never seems to count does it?!) as it lifts the blue and green. 

Then I stamped my chap onto tissue paper; painted the reverse; adhered to cream card and cut out. I also stamped out three circles (they are the centre of the frame from the first Clare Lloyd for PaperArtsy set) and painted the reverse and adhered them to card too. 

When I decided where I wanted my chap to go I stamped him directly onto the Art Part and punched a hole through his hand with my Crocodile  I fed three pieces of wire through the hole and then adhered the cut out image over the stamped image on the Art Part  disguising the hole. I then bent the wires to where I wanted them to go and added two of the balloons. On the third I added a sentiment and then attached it. The final touches were a little more stamping and a little shadowing around my chap and he was finished! I hope you like my project and that you join in with us this month!

Hearts

This fortnight the theme at DragonsDream Tag It On is Pink and hearts as chosen by our new DT member Catherine who is fabulously talented. The idea is to use the theme, a tag and at least one stamp!

I created the background with paint and added some hearts using the Tim Holtz hearts stencil and then laid Wendy Vecchi's heart stencil on the top. I painted the heart and then, when dry, I added layers of Portfolio pastels. I love experimenting with these and suspect I haven't even scratched the surface of these beauties yet!

The quotation is from Wendy Vecchi and the lines are an Ellen Vargo stamp (probably my favourite one she designed! Use it a lot!) I hope you join in with us this fortnight, we'd love to see what you make.

Edit: Have realised that this will fit in nicely with the current Make ART challenge so I'm adding this there! Love happy accidents like this!!

Heart Shrine

PaperArtsy have a fortnightly challenge and this time it's Paint! I love paint and chose to alter this shrine by Retro Cafe Art with the help of some leaves by Lin Brown and head designed by Lynne Perrella.

The head has been painted on tissue paper, adhered to card to strengthen it, and cut out.

The heart was painted and then I added some Portfolio Pastels to make it 'pop'! The leaves were cut from grungepaper using Lin's die, painted, stamped with the same script stamp that's on the heart, and then coated with a little Multi Matte Medium for a subtle shine. Love me forever

I LOVE Lin Brown's new paint colours for PaperArtsy as part of this latest release. They are rich and vibrant and really evocative of her holiday. I wanted to make a journal page  with a softer feel as it was recently Valentine's Day, and so I used three of the colours (Caribbean Sea, Bougainvillea, Banana) with Chalk to create a softer palette. 

Over the top I added some stencilled images in Distress Ink and some stronger stamped images. I love these new painty rings by Sara Naumann (and my favourite stripes from Ellen Vargo) - I've used them lots already! 

I then added some more stamping courtesy of Emma Godfrey's new stamps as well as images from Mischief Circus. To finish it off I added some painty rings (using bottle caps!) in Caribbean Sea, Bougainvillea and Chalk.

I thought I'd add this to the PaperArsty challenge this fortnight which is Paint themed!

Valentine

It's my turn at Country View Crafts Projects today and, it being Valentine's Day, I made a little something for my Valentine! Pop over and see a little more!

Journal Playtime

When I saw this quote and just couldn't resist using it and I had some prepared pages in my medium journal that I couldn't turn into the pages I wanted them to be. They've been sat there for about four months and suddenly this seemed to be the time to use them!

Originally the pages were Limelight with a middle page shaped and painted with Beach Hut but I couldn't get the pages to work as intended (I can now see where I was going wrong!) so I added a little London Bus and a little more Beach Hut with Chalk paint (all from PaperArtsy) and then started to add stamps and a little stencilling.

The lady is but up from images sourced at Mischief Circus. I assembled this on my computer so I could get the printed sizes correct - I am by no means any good at digital art (digital scrapbooking etc is a mystery to me!) but this I was just about able to work out! I did, however print all the images out separately rather than one image so that I could ink them and that, in real life, there is a little more texture than one flat image.

The quotation was one that was on Facebook! Most quotes on there don't resonate but this one did! I think she will still need a little work, but in the meantime I hope you like my pages!

Happy Ending

The new Wendy Vecchi challenge on Facebook and the Make ART Challenge blog this month is 'Hearts' and with a spare hour this morning I made a dent in my journal! The base was PaperArtsy paints (Beach Hut, Limelight, Chalk and Sherbet) with accents using Wendy's stencils with Broken China Distress Ink. I have left quite a lot of blank space because I loved the sherbet background so much I didn't want to spoil it!

I used a variety of Wendy's stamps to build up my background, and a few  of her stencilled images! The quotation is one of her stamps but the stamped image was too small so I used letter stamps to spell it out.

The heart was stamped on card and adhered over the top of the leaves. I coloured it with layers of Portfolios. Thanks for popping by.
EDIT: this page had a happy ending as I won the challenge! Thank you again to Kim, Linda and Wendy! I'm thrilled! To be honest - I had so much fun making the page that that was reward enough!

We need more encouragers!

I took part in a five day Art Chain on Facebook which meant I had to post three pictures of past projects for five days. This prompted what we've all found to be a fascinating look back over previous work trying to decide what to choose – and what shouldn’t see the light of day ever again! I used six pictures from my small moleskin journal where I used stamped images but also ones I’ve found at Mischief Circus. I haven’t used these Mischief Circus images for ages – mainly because the printer at home hates me! Anyway, a new printer later (hurrah!) and an enjoyable search through these fabulous images and this journal page (in my large moleskin journal) was born. 

The quotation was another Facebook find and really struck a chord...

Gee, it's orange!

This fortnight the theme at DragonsDream Tag It On is Orange and a letter as chosen by the rather lovely Silvia. The idea is to use the theme, a tag and at least one stamp! I decided I wanted to use my large wooden 'g' as the letter and so inked the back of it and stamped it onto tissue paper. Once I'd done that I was reminded of this tag and decided to make an orange version! 

The reverse of the tissue 'g' was painted lightly with Beach Hut Fresco paint and I sued the same paint on cream card and then stamped the birds on top.

I deliberately kept the background plain as I love the vibrant orange of Spice Marmalade Distress Ink. So, how will you interpret our theme this fortnight? We're really looking forward ton seeing your tags!

February

Ooh! It's my second month of Kate Crane's Art Journal Calendar challenge for 2015! That's pretty good going! I even have my idea for March buzzing around in my head!

I decided I wanted to keep some elements of January running through the whole year's pages - I enjoyed doing that with the Alphabet challenge last year and so have incorporated some of those elements again. I have left a few banks spaces this time, that I might fill in as the month goes on - I don't want it to be quite as busy as January's so reined it in a little but as the month goes on that might change!

I had stamped out the head for the heart woman twice and couldn't bear not using it so I cut out a couple of elements and used them on the left hand page. 

I deliberately left the ink on the sides of the letter stamps to remind me that not everything has to be perfect - my lesson for 2015! I never mind a mistake or two - they often improve your work, but stray in on a stamp is my next thing to embrace! Happy February to you!
